We believe that Primitivo may have been the first Zinfandel clone planted by Anton Nichelini in 1890.
5th Generation Winemaker, Aimée Sunseri, continues the tradition of her family who has been growing and producing Primitivo for the past 133 years.
About This Item
This 100% Primitivo has an amazing bouquet of black cherry, vanilla, acidic spice, and raisin. It is a treat from the first hint of the aromas to the last sip. Upon tasting take in the notes of jammy blackberry compote, vanilla, toasted oak, and ripe cherry. This Primitivo has a medium body making it smooth and rich. There is the slightest hint of sweetness on the finish. This wine is approachable but keeps you on your toes from the get-go.
Winemaker Notes
To continue the tradition of my family, that has been growing and producing Primitivo for the past 130 years. Primitivo is the luxury clone of Zinfandel, with its smaller berries and looser clusters. In the vineyard, we meticulously thin so that every single cluster makes a perfect curtain of fruit along the cordon without a single berry overlapping each other. This is how we make great Primitivo, with a little finesse and a lot of diligence in the cellar as well. I’m always trying to make my family proud one bottle at a time! Regarding style, I aim for a Primitivo that has an elegant quality that is classic to our region, the Chiles Valley Appellation of Napa Valley. These specific vines have roots that penetrate deep into the mineral rich soil of this high valley. The result is an elegant, refined, classically smooth Primitivo.
